DMT Recertification Requires 48 Continuing Education Hours Every Two Years
Are you a certified Diver Medical Technician (DMT)? DAN® is now offering 24 continuing education hours for DMTs who need to renew their certification; recertification requires 48 continuing education hours every two years. The first DAN recertification course is scheduled for Aug. 8-10, 2010, in Durham, N.C. A few spaces are still available.
The August course will be the first of a regular offering; its purpose is to recertify all DMT-As and upgrade all DMT-Basics to the newly standardized DMT rating, which took effect in January 2010. The DAN course will provide attendees the opportunity to earn eight hours of diving and emergency medicine credits and 16 hours of clinical lab time for a total of 24 hours of DMT continuing education that can be applied toward recertification.
DMTs fulfill a unique role among divers. They serve as the critical first in the dive medicine chain, caring for injured divers on the scene and acting as tenders in the hyperbaric chamber. DMTs also provide an alternative to the presence of qualified hyperbaric physicians at every dive site, responding to emergency medical situations, managing the situation and communicating effectively with DAN and physicians in remote locations.
Registration for the August course can be completed online; for additional information, to be registered for the August course or to be notified when additional courses are scheduled, contact DAN Education at (919) 684-2948 or oxygen@diversalertnetwork.org.
